"A TRIBUTE OF RESPECT TO MR. ROHRER.
Our entire community was shocked to hear that through a sad accident death had taken off Constantine T. Rohrer an old and respected resident of our village. Twice before Mr. Rohrer had been in serious, almost fatal accidents.
Born in Chicago in 1841 his 72 years have been years of activity and it was to get a load of fuel that called him out this day.
He had made Idaho his home since 1864 when he located at Rocky Bar, where he engaged in mining and butchering, once holding office of Deputy Sheriff there. In 1885 he married Miss Celestia Rose and they made their home on his ranch 2 miles south of Mountain Home until he sold it and bought the twenty acre tract, now in the residence portion of the town, which he has made into a beautiful and substantial home.
Mr. Rohrer enjoyed the respect and confidence of all who had dealings with him but only his intimate friends and closest neighbors know the sterling qualities of the heart that beat beneath the rough exterior. He always meant well. To the homeless stranger he has given shelter, the hungry have had food from his board, to the sick neighbor he each day called and said his cheery "how do you feel?" and he has tenderly folded the still hands of the dead and prepared them for the grave. Those who remember these charities and his loving family will miss him most and sorrow longest that he can not return.
Life's struggles were very hard on one of his years and he still had the care of seven dependent children but it was not till the summons had been answered that we noticed that his step had been getting slower, his form more bent, and his mind more childish -- only energy and ambition had never lessened. Besides his wife and these seven children, four married daughters survive him.
Mr. Rohrer was a staunch Catholic bringing his children up in the faith of his fathers and he was buried from the Catholic Church by Father Lobell, the well filled church attesting the esteem in which the deceased was held and the casket laden with beautiful flowers was followed to the grave by many sorrowing friends and relatives. The sympathy of the community is with the family in their bereavement.
