DEATH OF MRS. E. RIEHL
Saturday morning at 11:30 Mrs. Marie Mary Elizabeth Steigelmann Riehl passed away at her home on Parker avenue aged eighty years after an illness extending over a period of two years. She had been failing in health quite rapidly for the past six months and the immediate cause of her death was a complication of heart trouble and dropsy(edema). When the dreadful disease made Its encroachments upon the lungs of the aged lady it proved too much for her vitality and the end came quietly and peaceably, surrounded by her husband, sons and daughter and friends of the family.
Mrs. Riehl was the mother of eight children, and having lived on the old homestead just north of the city for the past twenty-five years, the family had a large circle of friends and acquaintances in Waterloo and Black Hawk County. The many friends who have known Mrs. Riehl during her long residence in Waterloo testify to the high quality of her true womanly character and the aid and helpfulness which she exerted in everything that tended towards uplifting the community in which she lived.
Mrs. Marie Mary Elizabeth Riehl was born on March 30, 1827, in {Niederotterbach, Palatinate, Bayern, Germany}/Christened 2 April 1827 Freckenfeld, Palatinate, Bayern, Germany, in the Lutheran Parish Church of Freckenfeld. Her maiden name, in American, was Steichelman, was morphed from the family name Steigelmann in Bayern, Germany. At the age of six years she moved with her parents to this country and settled on a farm in Poughkeepsie County, New York, where the family remained two years. They then took up a farm in Lake County, Indiana and it was in Cook County that she was married to Mr. Jacob Riehl in 22 November, 1849. The marriage proved to be a very happy one during the entire fifty-eight years and they lived together, and eight children were born to them, of whom all but one are now living.
