US Congressman. He educated in academics at Brunner's Business College and taught school in Blandon Township Pennsylvania, (1876-81). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1881, commenced to practice law in Reading, Pennsylvania, was assistant district attorney of Reading, (1886-89) and Berks County solicitor, (1895-98). In 1907, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1915. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 66.
