Dee was partially blind from birth with a congenital defect of optic nerve. She attended the Arkansas School for the Blind in Little Rock, AR beginning in 1917. In 1925, her grandparents, whom she had always lived with, took her to Houston, Texas where she gave birth to a baby girl that she put up for adoption. After this, she began her journey to California with her grandparents and two sisters and two brothers. Her father remained in Arkansas where he married his 2nd wife and had five more children. Dee married Enal Rogers in Texas, on her way to California. There was one son born to the marriage. She was never re-united with her daughter.
