Raymond Thomas Bruce was the first of six children born to Thomas Hugh and Erma Estella Smith Bruce. He was born Mar. 31, 1907 in Montpelier, Bear Lake County, Idaho. His younger siblings were Lucile Vilate, May, a stillborn baby, Clayton Smith, and Nona.
His schooling took place in the Montpelier schools, graduating from Montpelier High School. He met and married Lela Susannah Taylor, who lived in Paris, Idaho ten miles from Montpelier. They were married Sept. 1, 1928 in Paris, Idaho.
While the couple were living in Paris, there were three sons born: Raymond Cornell Aug. 4, 1929; Eldon Taylor Dec. 4, 1910; and Ross Thomas Mar. 4, 1932.
Raymond's oldest son Cornell died of a ruptured appendix Jan. 2, 1945. This was a devastating loss for them to bear.
They later moved to Pocatello where Raymond's wife, Lela died suddenly Nov. 29, 1951. She was brought to Montpelier for burial.
Raymond was alone for many years and passed away Jan. 1, 1991 in Mackay, Custer County, Idaho. His burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery beside his wife Lela.
