SCHENECTADY -- Andrew J. DeLuca Sr., 89, of the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home, formerly of Hattie Street and Amsterdam, died Friday morning, October 31, 2003 at the home. Andy was born on November 13, 1913 in Bainbridge, N.Y., a son of the late Joseph and Virginia Fabrizio DeLuca . As a youth, Andy and his family moved to Schenectady where he was educated. He served as a police officer for the Schenectady City Police Department for 37 years, retiring in 1977 as lieutenant. Andy was a past president of the Ameity Hall in downtown Schenectady, a former president and board member of the Ballston Spa Country Club, and a former communicant of St. Anthony's Church. Husband of the late Blanche Gajewski DeLuca whom he married January 27, 1934 and she later died on March 3, 1984. Survivors include his son, Donald W. DeLuca and his wife Katherine of Palm City, Fla. and Castleton, Vt.; and one deceased son, Andrew J. DeLuca Jr., who died in February of 2001. Father-in-law of Rose DeLuca ; grandfather of Lori DiBella and husband Michael, Patti Jo Trestick and husband Kevin, all of Schenectady, Kim Varsanyi and husband Robert of Schenectady, Jaime DeLuca and wife Beth of Scotia, Bridget Lenane and husband Michael of Clifton Park, Kelly DeBlois and husband William of Rehoboth, Mass., Donald R. DeLuca and wife Gaither of Willimgton, Ohio, and Denise DeLuca of Selkirk. Brother of Joseph F. DeLuca and wife Clara of Scotia, the late Anthony DeLuca , Frank DeLuca , Anna Antonellis, and Ida Scarborough. Dear companion of Marian Brewster of Amsterdam. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Services will be held Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets and then to St. Anthony's Church where a Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Entombment will follow the Mass in St. Anthony Cemetery Mausoleum, Glenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Andy's name to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square., Albany, NY 12205, the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 or to the Neuro Science Multiple Sclerosis Fund at Albany Medical Center, P.O. Box 8928, Albany, NY 12208.
