Roger C. Trenary, 60, Roe R. Cross Instructor in Economics and director of undergraduate studies, Department of Economics at K-State, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at home.

Mr. Trenary died following a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.

He was born Feb. 27, 1946 in Detroit, Mich., to Mary Lee Trenary and the late Glenn Trenary. Roger was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Carol Trenary. He is survived by his wife, Kate Philp; a son, Ben and fiancee Trish Gott of Manhattan; a brother, Robert Trenary of Farmington, Mich.; his mother, of Michigan; Katie's mom, Mary Ellen Philp, and Katie's siblings, Nancy Philp, Suzie Philp Northway, Jamie Dabrowski, Margaret Moulis and Jerry Philp.

After earning his bachelor's and master's degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, Roger came to K-State in 1977, and quickly established himself as one of the greatest teachers on campus. During his 29-year career at KSU, Roger taught some 24,000 students, quite possibly the most ever taught by a single individual at K-State. Teaching was Roger's gift. He won the Stamey Award for outstanding teaching in the College of Arts and Sciences four times. He also received the Commerce Bank Teaching Award, and won the coveted university-wide Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence in 1998.
