Following graduation from Fordson High School in Dearborn, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. When he returned from war he worked for Lincoln Mercury before making his career as an engineer with Ford Motor Company's Glass Division. It was at Ford Motor Company that he met Shirley Shomo in 1954. They fell in love and married on January 7, 1956 at St. Paul's Church in Dearborn. They made their home in Dearborn Heights for over forty years before retiring to Milford after Claude's forty-eight years at Ford. At home he enjoyed working outside, maintaining a pristine lawn and beautiful gardens. Above all, he enjoyed his family with whom he enjoyed opportunities to travel together to Aruba, Los Cabos, Florida, the Bahamas, England, Alaska and many other amazing family trips.
