SUDDEN SUMMONS AT FUNERAL
NECK BROKEN BY FALL
AL GOLDMAN IS STRIKEN WITH HEART DISEASE

Was Standing on Porch in Residence to Carry the Casket Across the Street

Fell Backward Over Railing His Head Striking Upon a Rock Dying in Few Minutes

Al Goldman, a former resident of Danville and well known here, fell yesterday at about 2 o'clock and broke his neck. Death resulted almost instantly.

At the time of the accident, the funeral of Mrs. L D Lane was about to be held. Mr. Goldman was a pall bearer and he and the other pall bearers were standing on the porch in readiness to carry the casket across the street to the church. He was striken with heart disease and fell backward over the railing his head striking a rock. He was picked up unconscious and carried into the house. He died in a few moments.

Mr. Goldman went to Rossville yesterday morning where he got a floral design at James Culbert's greenhouse for the Court of Honor to place on Mrs. Lane's casket. The accident happened a few minutes after he returned.

Mr. Goldman was about 42 years old and leaves a wife and five children. He was justice of the peace at Henning and dealer in real estate being associated in business with L. D. Lane and R. C. Wilson. He had also been a correspondent from Henning of nearly all the Danville newspapers. He lived in this city for several years, and formerly clerked at George W. Abdili's shoe store. The family lived at Oak Street and Townsend Avenue. Mr. Goldman removed his family from Danville to Henning, where they have since lived. While here he was an active Odd Fellow and at the time of his death was still a member of Danville Lodge 69.

Mrs. Goldman is a member of Mercy Lodge, Daughters of Rebekah of this city. Mrs. D G Williams and other members of the lodge will go out to Henning today to render assistance in Mrs. Goldman's time of trouble. It is expected that the funeral, which will be held under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, will be arranged for today.

Deputy Coroner Hall will go to Henning this morning for the purpose of holding the inquest.

A curious circumstance is that both Mrs. Lane and Mr. Goldman died as the result of heart disease.
