The Rev. John E. Williams, 47, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church at Poolesville, died at the rectory Wednesday after an apparent heart attack. The cause of death has not been determined.

A native of Little Rock, Ark., he received a B.A. degree from Columbia University and, in 1947, a B. D. from Union Theological Seminary. After attending Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria for the next tow years, he was ordained in September, 1950, into the Episcopal priesthood.

In 1946 he was married to the former Pauline Gilpin.

Rev. Williams served as assistant rector at St. James Episcopal Church in Richmond from 1951-1953, when he became rector of Heavenly Rest Church at Princeton, W. Va., for the next five years. After two years from 1958-1960 as assistant rector of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Frederick, Md., he was named rector of the Poolesville church.

Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, David, John III and Christopher of Poolesville, and Air Force Airman 1.C. Stephen of Randolph Air Force Base, Tex.; his mother, Mrs. Richard D. Robbins of Richmond, and a sister, Mrs. Ernest R. Perez of Wilmington, N.C.

The Rt. Rev. William F. Creighton, bishop of Washington, will conduct a memorial service at St. Peter's Church, Poolesville, at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the scholarship fund of Virginia Theological Seminary, in care of M. Woodbridge Williams, Dickerson, Md.
