James R. Fry, 73, of 2166 Kramer Hill Road, Reamstown, died Thursday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from complications after receiving a kidney transplant in October.
In February 1993, Fry had a successful liver transplant.
James Fry retired in 1990 from J.L. Clark in Lancaster, after 20 years as a tool and die maker. He was a former elder, deacon, treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent at Salem United Church of Christ in Reamstown, PA.
A World II U.S. Navy veteran, he participated in the D-Day invasion in Europe.
James Fry served for more than a decade on the East Cocalico Water and Sewer Authority.
He belonged to Ephrata Lodge 665 of the Free and Accepted Masons, Royal Arch Chapter 43 Goodwin Council 19 and R&S Masters.
Also, he was a former treasurer of the Historical Trust of the Cocalico area and was a member of the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley, The Lancaster County Historical Society, The Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, and the Reamstown Happy Hours Club.
Born in Ephrata Township on March 30, 1925, he was a son of the late H. Spencer and Ruth (Taylor) Fry.
He was married to Hilda Mary (Eshelman) Fry for 50 years in January.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, three sons, 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister and a brother.
