"Charles LeRoy Morgan was commissioned an officer in Company D, Texas 8th Cavalry Regiment on 1 May 1861. He was promoted to Full Major on 1 Mar 1862. He was then mustered out on 1 March 1862. On that same date, he was commissioned an officer in Company S, Texas Morgan's Cavalry Battalion. He was promoted to Full Lt. Col. on 1 Jan 1864, promoted to Full Colonel on 15 March 1865, and was mustered out on 15 March 1865. He was again commissioned an officer in Company S, Texas Morgan's Cavalry Regiment on 15 March 1865 and was mustered out on 26 May 1865." WAS YOUNGEST COLONEL IN CONFEDERATE ARMY
The death of Colonel C. L. Morgan, which occurred in Ballinger, Tuesday morning, March 11th, 1924, removed from the walks of life a distinguished citizen and one of the youngest colonels who served in the Confederate service. Col. Morgan was born in Bastrop county, Texas, August 24, 1840, and was living in his 84th year when called over there. At the beginning of the war between the states, Mr. Morgan, not yet of age, entered the services of Terry's Texas Rangers. In later months of the service he was one of the one hundred men who became the body guard of General Hindman. At the age of 21 years, as a member of the 8th Texas Regiment, he was given the commission of Colonel of Morgan's Regiment. He was presented to Gen. Hindman as the youngest colonel in the Confederate Service. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, 3:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. W. J. Coulson and interment made in Coleman cemetery. Rev. B. D. Kennedy of the Presbyterian church and Rev. T. S. Armstrong of the Methodist church, conducted the funeral services. - The Democrat-Voice Coleman, Texas.
