EVANS - Roy Dayton Knapp, 76, of Evans, died Aug. 20, 1997, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem NC, after a short illness. He was a member of AF & AM 16,Ripley, and of Ripley VFW. He was retired from E. I. DuPont, Belle, with 33 years' service, and from the Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel, serving in World War II and Korea.
Surviving: wife, Mary Frances Knapp of Evans; sons, Douglas Howard Knapp of Virginia Beach VA, Roy Dwight Knapp of Havelock NC; daughter, Brenda Joyce Gates of Alexandria IN; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Service was 11 a.m. Monday at Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Mike Norris officiating. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
