Irene Keiler dies:


Irene B. Keiler, active in civic and community affairs for many years, died at 11 p.m. Monday at Parkview Convalescent Center.


Mrs. Keiler, 93, was a member of Grace Episcopal Church for 50 years and served on the Altar Guild.


Her civic and community activities included charter memberships on the Civic Beautification Board and board of directors of Community Chest. In 1987, she was given the Outstanding Services Award by the local United Way chapter for her years of service.


She also served three terms as chairman of the Civic Beautification Board, was a member of the Friedman Community Center Board, the Friendly Home board, the Paducah Garden Club, the Kentucky Bicentennial Commission, the National Bicentennial Commission, was a former zone conservation chairman of the Garden Club of America and served several terms as an appointed member of the Paducah Planning and Zoning Commission.


She also was an avid golfer and goose hunter.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo F. Keiler who was Paducah Tilghman's first football coach. She and her husband donated Keiler Field to the city, which served as Tilghman's first football stadium, and Keiler Park, now a city park located on South 6th Street at Broad Street.


Survivors include a son, John W. Keiler II of Paducah; a daughter, Blanche Earl of Malibu, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Ann Whelan and John W. Keiler III of Dallas; James Steven Keiler of Paducah, Byron Prinzmetal and William Prinzmetal of Los Angeles, Cindy Pattison of San Francisco and Anita Turnmire of Denver, and three great-grandchildren.


Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. George Jaeger officiating. Burial will be in Temple Israel Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Roth Funeral Chapel from 5 p.m. To 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.


The family request that expression of sympathy be in the form of donations to Grace Episcopal Church or any charity.
