Obituary

Officer Andrew S. Dunn, 30, passed away March 19, 2011, fighting for his life to stay in this world at the same hospital where he fought for his life to enter this world on March 11, 1981, at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky.

Andrew was a lifelong resident of Sandusky, graduating from Sandusky High School in 1999, where he earned a varsity letter in golf. He also attended Terra Community College where he received an associates degree in criminal justice.

His lifelong ambition was to follow in his father's footsteps and become a police officer. His dream was fulfilled on May 17, 2008, when he was hired full time at the Sandusky Police Department. Prior to that, Andrew had also served as a reserve officer for Sandusky, a part-time police officer for Cedar Point and Clyde Police departments.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lake Erie Lodge 17, serving as guard and the National Criminal Enforcement Association. He loved all sports activities; loved playing golf and an organized weekly basketball game with fellow officers and friends.

Andrew is survived by his beloved wife of three years, Julie M. (Busco) Dunn whom he married Feb. 19, 2008; two young sons, Caleb, age 3, and Conner, age 5 months -- these two never got to know their father long, but family and friends will make sure they get to know what a great father he was and never let his memory fade. He is also survived by his father and fellow Sandusky Police Officer Matthew S. Dunn; his mother, Roberta J. (Pooch) Dunn of Pompano Beach, Fla.; stepmother, Vicky; two younger sisters, Lesley (fiancé Carl Hitch) Dunn of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Nakia (Jeremy) Stookey of Sandusky; stepsister, Lindsey Pappert; stepbrother, Brett Pappert; beloved paternal grandfather, Ralph G. Dunn, and loving maternal grandmother, Rowene M. "Penny" Pooch, both of Sandusky; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and all of his fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement.

Andrew was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Donna L. Dunn; maternal grandfather, Robert J. Pooch Sr.; and aunt, Mary M. Pooch.

Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011, at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Road, Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 25. Entombment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Officer Andrew S. Dunn Memorial Fund at any PNC Bank.
