Parley Vincent Redd, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Blanding, passed away August 4, 1994, at his home of a respiratory illness at the age of 78.
He was born September 16, 1915, in Blanding, Utah,
a son of Parley Redd and Ruth Hurst. He received his early education in Blanding, having graduated from San Juan High School where he also served as the student body president. He was a graduate of Brigham Young University. He married Reva Vickers of Nephi, Utah, June 25, 1940 in the Manti Temple. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an armed guard officer and retired from the Naval Reserve as a Lt. Commander. Following graduation he worked in several western states for the Coast and Geodetic Survey and the U.S. Soil Conservation. He returned to Blanding in 1946 to work with his father in the Parley Redd Mercantile which he and his two brothers later purchased and operated for many years. He served as a member of the San Juan Stake High Council for 14 years and as a bishop of Blanding 2nd Ward for six years. He and his wife served a mission in the Mesa Temple Visitors Center and as ordinance workers. They made their home in Mesa, Arizona, for the past 11 winters. Vincent will be fondly remembered for his wit and for the many colorful stories of experiences with the citizens and Native Americans of the San Juan area, the country he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Reva, Salt Lake City; one son, Bryce Vincent Redd and wife, Cathy and four grandchildren, Jeremy, Mindy, Dallin and Nicole Redd, all of Blanding; two sisters, Merene Humphrey of Orangeville, Utah; and Jacqueline Wilson (Dean), Salt Lake City; a sister-in-law, Margaret Redd, Blanding; two brothers, Dale Redd (Maurine), Ogden, Utah; and Kent Redd (Irene), Blanding. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, Gordon and Paul, and a sister, Hazel.
Services will be held Monday, August 8, at 12 noon, in the Blanding North Chapel. Friends may call Sunday, August 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the San Juan Mortuary and on Monday at the mortuary from 10 to 11 a.m.
