Rev. John J. Scott.
Prominent Blind Baptist Minister Dies in Sanatorium Here Following a Long Illness - Funeral Services Yesterday at Mt. Moriah - A Native of Illinois

Rev. John J. Scott, for years a prominent Baptist minister of this county, died Friday night about 10 o'clock in the Baker Sanatorium here after suffering for many weeks with kidney trouble.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Mt. Moriah church, Alfordsville township, by Dr. Chas. H. Durham, assisted by Rev. E. A. Paul, and interment was made in the cemetery near the church.

Deceased was 75 years of age. He was born February 13, 1849 in the state of Illinois. He came to North Carolina and for many years had made his home in Orrum, being pastor of several churches in that vicinity, until his health failed a few years ago.

When he was 7 years old he lost the sight of both eyes as the result of a severe case of sore eyes. He was a remarkable man, never faltering in his specific duties as a pastor, and was so well-known throughout this section that he could easily make his way with very little assistance. He did most of his traveling by train. He was married twice, and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. McDuffie of Marion, S.C., by his first wife, and one son, Mr. R. G. Scott of Raynam, by his second wife.
