Joanne Elizabeth Owen Cox March 18, 1986 – March 13, 2011

Joanne Elizabeth Owen Cox passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13th, 2011. She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed.

Joanne was born on March 18th, 1986 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. She lived her life full of adventure, enthusiasm, and love. During the last three years, she bravely fought cancer and gave us all hope and strength through her eternal optimism and vigor. Through all adversity, her spirit and will shined through and we will forever hold her in our hearts.

During her life, she worked in early childhood education as well as special education. Joanne was passionate about helping others, especially when it came to special needs children. She also enjoyed her career as a cheerleader for both West Middle School and Grand Junction High School. The skills she learned there bled into the rest of her life as an encouragement to the people around her.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Aaron Cox; her parents, Paula and Chris Wehner and Dennis and Mary Jo Owen; her siblings, Robert Owen (Karen), Kathryn Owen, Daniel Wehner, and Victoria Wehner, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as her dog, Brodie. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Barbara Lombard.

A memorial service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary at 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.

At Joanne's request, all donations should be sent to Hospice of Western Colorado at 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506. The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Hospice for the care they provided to Joanne and her family.

The family would also like to thank all the people who have reached out to offer comfort in this difficult time.

"Go now and spread your wings, for we know that you belong among the Angels, where you can protect and guide us".
