March 15, 1923 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Delight Boylan Phelps, 85 years old, mother of Mrs. B.I. Salinger, died at the home of her daughter Monday night at 11:30 o'clock after being an invalid for nine years, since a stroke of apoplexy. An attack of pneumonia was contributory to her death. Mrs. Phelps was a remarkable woman. During the entire years of her illness she was courageous and uncomplaining and made her sick room a place which the members of the family and her friends delighted to visit. She had been a great reader of good literature all her life and until the last few months was able to while away many hours in the company of her books. During the years of her illness she was cared for tenderly at the home of her daughter Mrs. Salinger.
Mrs. Phelps was born at Black River Falls, NY May 29, 1838 and would soon have reached her 85th birthday. She was a direct descendant of Peregrin White, a child of one of the Mayflower party. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and had been an active member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union for more than 40 years.
The survivors are six sons and three daughters, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private and will be held at the B.I. Salinger home Saturday afternoon at 3.30 o'clock. Only the relatives and a few close friends will attend. Services will be conducted by Rev. Grant Lewis, of Des Moines, former pastor of the M.E. church in this city. Mrs. Gertrude Stephany Seyller will sing a few favorite songs of the decensed.
Among the relatives who will attend the funeral from out of town are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lindsay, of Aurelia, Ia.; Mrs. John Powers, of Mitchell, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. T.H.
Boylan, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Boylan, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mrs. Emil Fischel, of Chicago.
