Lauren Mason Long, 88, of Boise, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.

Lauren was born on December 20, 1922 in Lebanon, Oregon to Alfred and Bessie Long. He was the third of seven children born to the Long family. The family moved to Tillamook, Oregon where he attended school and played basketball for Tillamook High School.

Lauren graduated in 1941 and joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during World War ll. During his service in the Navy, Lauren was assigned to the USS Gillespie Destroyer.

Upon completing his years of service, he met the love of his life, Pearl Friesen, and they were married January 18, 1947 in Salem, Oregon. Lauren and Pearl moved to San Diego, California soon after they were married, where Lauren began his 36-year career with Carnation Dairy.

Upon his retirement, Lauren was the Equipment Manager for the Athletic Department of Point Lorna Nazarene University. Lauren and Pearl were blessed to raise their two children, Steve, born in 1953, and Becky, born in 1956, while living in San Diego. In 1992, Lauren and Pearl followed Becky and Terry and their family to Idaho to watch their grandchildren grow up.

Lauren and Pearl were active members of San Diego First Church of the Nazarene and Boise First Church of the Nazarene. Lauren was a faithful believer and loved serving his Lord Jesus Christ.

Lauren is survived by his wife, Pearl of 64 years; his brother, Don and a sister, LaVelle, both of Oregon; son Steve (Nancy) of San Diego, CA and daughter Becky (Terry) of Boise; grandchildren, Christopher (Tristan) of Boise, Cameron (Jami) of Coeur d'Alene, Kevin (Carrie) of Boise, and Karah of Boise; and great-grandson, Noah Christopher (Chris and Tristan), of Boise.

Lauren was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents and four siblings (Gordon, Les, Dick, and Hazel).

A memorial service in honor of Lauren's life will be held at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. The family has suggested contributions in Lauren's memory may be made to Boise First Church of the Nazarene, 3852 N. Eagle Rd, Boise 83713.
