Helen Cuffe Anderson, 100, Minot, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in a Minot hospital.

Helen was born in Stanley on Jan. 20, 1911, to Thomas and Eleanor (Matthews) Cuffe. She received her elementary education at Cathedral School in St. Paul, Minn., and Parochial School in Fulda, Minn. She attended Stanley High School, graduating in 1929.

Helen later attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., and Minot State Teachers College, where she earned an elementary teacher's certificate. She taught in rural schools in the Stanley and Kenmare area for four years. She completed a one-year course at the Minot Business Institute and worked a year for the State Historical Society.

Helen was united in marriage to Dr. Arthur Sidney Anderson on Dec. 26, 1937, at Fargo. She assisted him in his practice of optometry as a receptionist and as a dispensing laboratory technician in his Bismarck, Minot and San Diego offices. They moved to San Diego and later to Palmdale, Calif. Her husband died in Palmdale in 1957.

Helen returned to Minot, where she was employed at the Minot Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic from 1958 until retiring in 1976. She continued working at the clinic part time and was "on call" until 1986. She was certified upon completion of the Basic Services Cause for Ophthalmic Medical Assistants, by the America Association of Ophthalmology in 1968.

She was a past member of the Auxiliary of the Optometric Association of Southern California and the Coterie Club of Minot. She was also a member of Elkettes, Auxiliary of the Minot Elks Lodge, and Auxiliary of the Eagles Aerie of Minot, and St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot.

Helen is survived by: her daughter; Jacqueline Hollywood, La Mesa, Calif.; grandchildren, Donald Hollywood and Donna Lynne Hollywood, both of La Mesa; several nieces and nephews to include: Richard (Jaynee) Walstad, Fargo, Thomas (Pat) Walstad, Plymouth, Minn., Robert (Eleanor) Walstad, Minot, Mary (Roger) Hoffmann, Fargo, and John (Jeanne) Walstad, Bismarck; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Isabel Cuffe, Mary Lou Wilson and Alyce Walstad; brother, William Cuffe; and son-in-law, Harrison Hollywood.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, March 19, 2011, at 1 p.m., in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
