Obituary: Effie Harty Fried
Marsall News Messenger
March 18, 2011 thru April 18, 2011

Mrs. "Effie" Harty Fried went peacefully to meet her Lord and Saviour on March 16, 2011. Visitation will be held at Downs Funeral Home, Marshall, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 19, at 3 p.m. at Algoma North Cemetery with Bro. John Bayliss officiating. She was 94 years old.
She was born June 16, 1916, to Forrest and Catherine Jones in Mt. Enterprise, Ts. At an early age, her family moved to Gilmer, Tx. At the age of 14 years old, after her mom's passing, she raised her three brothers and one sister.
After the marriage to "Sam" Harty from Gilmer, Tx., she would sometimes help with his logging trips. Soon they moved to Marshall, Tx., where he was employed by Snyder Lumber Company. Mr. Harty passed away in 1968. Mrs. "Effie" retired after 30 years of service at Imperial Reading Corporation "Blue Buckle". In the early 70's, she met Nolan Fried from Harleton, Tx. They had a loving marriage until his passing in 1978.
Mrs. Fried was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church of Marshall, Tx. Some of the first Sunday School classes were started by her in a two room house behind the church. She rarely missed services until her health prevented her from attending.
Mrs. Fried was preceded in death by a son, Bill Harty of Marshall; husbands, William "Sam" Harty and Nolan Fried; sister, Ada Jones DeGaugh of Nebraska; and brothers, Jewel Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Grady Jones of Kilgore, Tx.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law Joy Harty; grandchildren, Keenan Harty and Keila Harty of Marshall; and brother, Cecil Jones of Longview, Tx. She had numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank her caregiver of several years, Colandra Smith. Also, express a "special thanks" to the nurses and staff at Marshall Manor Nursing Home where she made it "her home" these past few years. Thank you, Beacon House Hospice, Longview, Tx., for your loving care and support. The family would like to thank Margie Shahan and her husband, Alex, and her son, Chris.
The Lord is in control. He does not make mistakes. Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God; trust also in me." John 14:1
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Beacon House Hospice, P.O. Box 5908, Longview, TX 75608 (903/553-0035).
