Andrew Jackson Day Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., formerly of Greenville., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003.
Born in Hushpuckena, Miss. on Feb. 27, 1919, Mr. Day is preceded in death by his wife, June Becker Day, and brothers, Hansel Day, William Day, Russell Day, Ransom Day and his sisters, Frances Burke, Martha Higgins and Mada Day.
Mr. Day is survived by family members Debbie Day, Donna Gallman, Dede Miles, Bill Miles, Ashley Gallman, Shelley Miles, Casey Miles, Austin Gallman, Walker Gallman, Jackie Dyer Cusack, Connie Warfield, Robert Day and Hugh Day.
A veteran of World War II, Sgt. Day served in the 8th Air Force stationed in Old Buckingham, England. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After many years as a cotton merchant, Mr. Day retired as a partner with Day Brothers Cotton Company and later as a partner in Dunavant Enterprises in 1984.
Mr. Day spent the last several years persuing his passion with golf.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at St James Episcopal Church, Greenville, S.C. with the Rev. Timothy M. Dombeck officiating. Prior to the service there will be a visitation at the Church from 1 p.m. until service time. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the home of Steve and Heather Dyer, 802 McDaniel Ave., Greenville, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care, 410 Mills St., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
