Mary Jane Brown, 86, Watsontown, passed away on Friday, March 11, at 9:15 PM with her family at her side. She and her twin brother Marvin were born to Gilbert and Anna (Fisher) Stahl in Danville on August 19, 1924. Her then toddler sister Faylene and extensive Stahl and Fisher families welcomed the arrival of the twins. Mary Jane, Jane to her family, grew up in Mazeppa with picnics, church, family, ice skating on ponds in winter and swimming and diving in the summer.

Her marriage during wartime to John Brown of Allenwood was the beginning of a lifetime relationship with sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. The Brown family called her Mary Jane. Her life with Johnny was full of family affairs, barn dances, Lewisburg High School class of ‘42 reunions, Eastern Star, church, and raising her children, Jean and Kenny.

Neighbors were always a big part of her life. She remained in her neighborhood since 1951. Her neighbors helped her get through difficult physical times the past few years and were on-call day and night if she needed them. They mowed her lawn and cleared her snow. In some cases, she returned the favors with cookies. Her friends in Guild supported her. She attended meetings and participated in their Nut sales every year.

She was very proud of her travel adventures to 13 ports of call over the years with her nephew Wayne. She learned to like cats-Boots and Peanut-Wayne's cats!

"Gram" was the very proud grandmother who could be found playing softball in the yard with her 3 grandchildren in her younger years-sixties! Gram was a confidant to them and now a great loss. She had the same kind of relationship with many of her nieces and nephews who now feel the same void.

She is survived by her daughter Jean Amsterdam and husband Richard of Andover, Massachusetts, her sister Faylene Groover of Lewisburg and her 3 grandchildren, Tara and Leo DeMarco, both residing in the Los Angeles area, and Carmen DeMarco of Boston.

Calling hours will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, March 20th at Brooks Funeral Home, Watsontown, PA.

Funeral services will be Monday March 21, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 401 Main Street, Watsontown, at 11:00 AM followed by interment in Watsontown Cemetery.
