Alfred Helmut Naujocks was born in Keil and attended Keil University and studied engineering.
He joined the SS and became a Obersturmfuhrer he was involved in many covert and clandestine operations, which the Nazis wanted no records kept and limited knowledge of such operations..kept to the minimum.
Naujocks was involved in the Venlo Incident in the Netherlands which resulted in the capture of two British Agents.
He was also involved in the attack on a German Radio Station Gleinwitz, this was actually concentration camp prisoners forced to dress in Polish uniforms and then shot.
This incident gave Hitler the chance to invade Poland, and the Second World War started.
At Nuremberg Naujocks stated he was under orders from Heinrich Muller Head of Gestapo and his superior Reinhard Heydrich to carry out this operation, with full knowledge of Adolf Hitler.
Naujocks was also involved in the counter terrorist attacks against the Danish population from December 1943 to Autumn 1944 - and in the murder of a priest Father Kaj Munk.
After the war..Naujocks escaped custody and worked as a businessman in Hamburg and later sold his story to the media - The Man Who Started The War. It is not possible to state the full scale of operations carried out by Naujocks - he was described as being highly intelligent and very ruthless and a committed nazi.
Naujocks also worked with Otto Skorzeny to organise the ODESSA escape organisation, which helped SS and Gestapo Officers to escape prosecution by going to South America.
Naujocks was never interviewed by an historian - his testimony would have been a gift to history, giving a clear insight into the functions of the nazi state...behind closed doors.
Alfred Naujocks died:4th April 1966.
Cause of Death : Heart Attack.
