Mrs. Eloise Ennis Thompson, age 84 of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in Bethany Assisted Living in Vidalia after a sudden illness. She was a native of Wheeler County, was a 1944 Graduate of Glenwood High School, attended the Georgia Teachers College, and has resided in Mt. Vernon since 1945. She was employed as a social worker with Montgomery County Department of Family and Children Services, and retired after thirty years of service. She was a member of the Garden Club, and former President of the PTA at the Montgomery County Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years Lewis Hall Thompson, and her parents Howard L. Ennis and Mary Louise Hartley Ennis.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by three children Louis H. Thompson, Jr. and Anne of Mt. Vernon, Vickie Thompson Gaultney and Jim of Lyons, and Charlie S. Thompson and Shirley of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren James Gregory Hughes, Jennifer Hughes Graham, Amy Thompson, Trisha Thompson, and Keith and Kris Shedd; great-grandchildren Summer, Gracie, Hall, Hughes, Lindsey, Tyler, and Shelby.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18th at 2:00 pm in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Thompson and Reverend Carl Hay officiating. Interment will follow in the Glenn J. Thompson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:00 pm Friday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 482, Mt. Vernon, GA 30445.
