Mr. James Ed Wilkerson, 87, of Big Spring, Texas and Norman, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in Norman, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Nalley-Pickle Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

Mr. Wilkerson was born on August 5, 1923 in Paris, Texas to Clem and Cora Wilkerson before the family settled in Big Spring. The family moved to Big Spring in 1929, where he attended public schools.

Ed enlisted in the United States Army on January 25, 1943 along with his twin brother, Fred. He served in the United States Army under General Patton. Ed was present when General Patton's army liberated Pizon in May of 1945. Ed was very proud of his service to the United States during World War II. He was discharged on February 1, 1946.

Returning home, he married Miss Doris Elizabeth Stroud on June 15, 1946.

Ed and his wife, Doris, were members of the First Assembly of God in Big Spring for over 60 years. He loved to sing and lead the singing for Wednesday night services.

He was also a passionate golfer, carrying a 6 handicap for most of his golfing years.

He is survived by his son, James "Bo" Wilkerson, Jr. and wife, Linda of Norman, Arkansas; a grandson, Allen Cureton and wife, Sara of Black Springs, Arkansas; a granddaughter, Tara and husband Sheriff David White of Story, Arkansas; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Veda White of Dickison, Texas and Juanita Bryant of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Doris, his beloved wife of 60 years; his parents; three sisters Agnes, Dorothy, and Opal; and three brothers Tutor, Herman and twin brother Fred.
