Ross Stillson, 91, of Poolesville, Md., formerly of Waynesboro, Tampa, New Kensington and Kittanning, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007.

He was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Summerville to the late Frank and Mary Pezzano Stillson, was the husband of the late Jessie Rizzo Stillson, whom he married Oct. 26, 1940, and also was preceded in death by grandson Leonard Brent Stillson, brothers Anthony, Augustine and James Stillson and sisters Anne Abraham, Kathryn Barrett and Theresa Lemmon.

Ross graduated from Kittanning High School in 1934, served his country in the Navy during World War II as a radio operator aboard the USS Grainger and was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he worked for 44 years and retired in 1977 as chief field clerk.

Ross was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro; St. Mary Catholic Church, Kittanning, and St. Joseph Church, New Kensington.

He was an avid golfer and Steelers and Pirates fan, loved bowling and gardening and coached Little League. Ross was president of the Italian American Club and member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the American Legion and the Lions Club.

Surviving are children Brenda de Troeyer of Washington, D.C., Leonard R. Stillson of Vandergrift, Dennis F. Stillson of Poolesville, Cynthia L. Spindel of Rockville, Md., and Cheryl M. Herold of Waynesboro; brothers Joseph Stillson of Mechanicsburg and John Stillson of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at the HILTON FUNERAL HOME, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, Md., Interment will be private in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville, Md.
