A native of Cleveland County, she was born Aug. 16, 1928, the daughter of the late Charlie B. and Odessa Hill Lowe.
She was a Washington High School graduate and a graduate of A & T University in Greensboro. She was employed as an elementary school teacher for 32 years. A member of Hopewell Baptist Church, she served as church secretary for many years, sang on the gospel choir and was an usher. She also served on the welcome committee and was woman of the year in 1999. In addition, she was also a member of the Brothers in Christ Outreach Ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Isabelle Davenport, Mary Lizzie Chambers and Magaline Elder and three brothers, Fred Lowe, Charles and Curtis Lowe.
Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Rosa Lee Smith and Lallage Clements both of Shelby; one brother, Edward Lowe also of Shelby; god-son, Golden Smith of Charlotte, NC; her life-long friend, Joseph Beasley of Grover, NC; an aunt, Gladys Dorsey of St. Louis MO; sister-in-law, Doreathea Lowe of Forest City and a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2:30-3 p.m. Friday at Hopewell Baptist Church
