Virginia was born August 21, 1921, in the Town of Saukville, the daughter of William and Gertrude Arentz Dickmann. On November 10, 1945, she was united in marriage with Elroy Maechtle in Saukville. Together the two ran a dairy farm just north of Port Washington for 40 years.
Mrs. Maechtle was a member of St. Peter Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington. She was a member of the Saukville Lady's American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, quilting, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Elroy, and their five children: Gary (Amy)Maechtle of Crivitz, Paulette (Donald) Fletcher of Des Moines IA, Wendy Maechtle of Port Washington, Bruce (Christine) Maechtle of Port Washington and Lisa (Michael) Crivello of Port Washington. She is further survived by her daughter-in-law Barb Engel, of West Bend; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Lester (Donna) Maechtle of Port Washington, sister-in-law, Pearl Dickmann of Saukville, God-daughter, and niece, Cindy (Skip) Douglas of Grafton, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Richard Maechtle, daughter-in-law, Annette Maechtle, and siblings: Loretta Grosklaus, Anita Peiffer, Dorina Fiedler, Delores Kertscher, Celestine, Edward, Anthony and Alvin Dickmann.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m., on Thursday evening, March 17, 2011, at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Avenue, in Port Washington with Deacon Tom Surgis officiating. She will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery, in Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday evening, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
