Jesse Robert was a farmer and entrepeneur in La Cygne, KS. He built and operated a sorghum mill and sold the syrup it produced door to door. He sank a coal mine on his property and collected royalty on the coal production. During the Great Depression he worked part time grading roads. Active in his church (Mt Zion Methodist), he was also a stalwart supporter of the local Macedonia School, which he attended as a boy (pitching on the school baseball team). He served on the school's board.
