Mary J. Chester, of Valparaiso, formerly of Hobart and Glen Park, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at the V.N.A. Horton Hospice. She was 86.
She was born January 31, 1917 in Gary, the daughter of Anthony and Caroline (Chajmorsky) Vrska, who preceded her in death.
On December 29, 1948 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gary, she married Robert E. Chester, who preceded her in death in 1985.
She is survived by 3 children, Dolly (Chuck) Chirila of Westville, Charles Chester of Hobart and James (Teresa) Chester of Valparaiso; 3 sisters, Helen Uskert of Omaha, Neb., Julie Uskert of Valparaiso, Cecelia Bostwick of Lake Station and 4 grandchildren, Danielle, Sara, Jordan and Carl.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Chester and a sister, Anna Yakubeck.
She graduated from Lew Wallace High School, was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton and was affiliated with St. Paul Catholic Church in Valparaiso.
Funeral services, Rev. Joseph Pawlowski officiating, will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, to St. Paul Catholic Church for 10 a.m. funeral mass. Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery.
