Ralph E. Allen, Sr., 91, died March 14, 2011 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 5, 1919 in Purcell, OK, the son of Marion and Edna Hunt Allen. A resident of Hutchinson since 1969, he had worked for the Quaker Drilling CO for 25 years. He had most recently worked as a custodian for the 308 School District for 12 years. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during WW II. He married Jewel Lemming on March 10, 1937. They divorced. He married Mary Everhart on March 26, 1945 in Denton, TX. She died March 31, 1996.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Edna Thompson (Greg), Moore, OK and Barbara Watson, Tyler, TX, 2 sons, Ed Allen (Corri), Hutchinson and Dale Allen (Charlene), Salina, KS, 2 sisters, Inez Crew, Peoria, AZ and Doris Skipper, Abilene TX, 6 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a step mother, Annie Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bones Nay presiding. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be held from 5-9PM Tuesday and 9AM to 9PM Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6-8PM Wednesday, all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Reno County, in care of the funeral home.
