Frederick W. Sleight was born in Corning, NY, son of Winfield C. and Ethel Estep Sleight and moved to Florida with his parents around 1925. He served in the Navy during World War II. The Central Florida Museum and Planetarium in Orlando, FL was co-founded by him and he was its first director. After leaving Orlando in the 1960's he eventually became director of the Desert Museum in Palm Springs, CA in 1965. There are numerous papers published by him in professional anthropology and archaeology journals. For a time he was a special research associate employed by the Navajo Indian Tribal Council helping to establish reservation boundaries.
