Several related families from Nova Scotia and from P.E.I. settled in the Territory of Michigan (now called Iowa County, Wisconsin)

They moved with their children and extended families to Iowa and Dane counties, Wisconsin about 1854. They farmed in what became Arena, Iowa co., Wisconsin and other townships in those counties and other nearby counties.

William and Elizabeth settled at Ridgeway, where he engaged in farming. Elizabeth died on the 16th of July 1854 in Ridgeway, Iowa, Wisconsin

Nancy Victory Ward is one of three sisters and a brother who married McKenzie siblings. Her sister Margaret married Wm. A. Ward. This meant that she became the step-mother of her sisters and brother as well as an 'in-law'. All very confusing on paper.

She was the 6th child of Wm. Allen Ward and his first wife Elizabeth Reid.

She and William A. McKenzie had at least nine children, William, James, John, Clarence, Carrie, Ada and Bessie, one son, George, died at Milwaukee in 1877, in his 20th year, another child died in infancy.

The stone records Nancy's birth and death. You will see that William's name is also recorded. However, he is not buried there. The family believe that he is buried in California where he traveled with his daughter.
