July 25, 1968 - Carroll Daily Times - Funeral services for Mrs. Leola D. Saul, 80, retired Carroll abstracter, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church here, with the Rev. D. Merle Hill officiating. "Lead, Kindly Light" was sung by Lee Bratten during the rites. Mrs. Donald Severin was organist. Serving as pallbearers were Archie Gietz, John Gnam, Dr. A. Reas Anneberg, William Kurth, O.J. Bernholtz and Martin Schmeiser. Burial was beside her husband, W. Irving Saul, in the Carroll City Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Dahn-Woodhouse Funeral Home.
Mrs. Saul, a resident of Carroll for about 60 years, owned and operated the Carroll County Abstract Company for 38 years. She died at St. Anthony Hospital July 22 after a long illness.
Mrs. Saul, whose home was at 118 East Eighth Street, had been a Carroll resident for about 60 years. She was born at Columbus City, Iowa, on Feb. 27, 1888, a daughter of Lawrence D. and Nancy Jane Bell Painter Williams. Her marriage to Mr. Saul took place at Ames in 1907.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. R.G. (Helen) DeLong of Saratoga, Calif.; two grandchildren, five great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Birdie Crawford of Mesa, Ariz.; Mrs. Ethel Corey, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Grace Brimmer, Kellerton; and Mrs. Mabel Nelson of Cave Creek, Ariz.; and two brothers, Fred Williams of Gary, Ind., and Verle Williams of Lima, Ohio.
Besides her husband, who died in 1933, Mrs. Saul was preceded in death by an eight-year old son, Robert, in 1918.
