Charity was the daughter of John L. SNIDER & Mary "Polly" NEWTON. She and her parents came to Hancock County Kentucky by 1816. There she married William H. BARNETT on 19 Jan 1832. They settled in Ohio County, KY near the town of Herbert.

In 1855 they moved on to Fayette County, Illinois. There they settled near Hickory Creek in Loogootee.
