Grandson of Cherokee Chief John Ross, Treasurer of Cherokee Nation, Postmaster, Tahlequah (Indian Territory and Oklahoma) 1904-1908.. He and his wife Fannie D. Thornton were married on Christmas Day, 1867. They were married for 61 years and one week until Fannie's passing New Year's Eve 1928. There were nine children of this union and countless foster children raised by "Uncle Bob" and "Aunt Fannie"

Jennie Ross Cobb returned home to Mexia, Texas Saturday after attending the funeral of her father, Robert Bruce Ross, who died at the home of his daughter, Fannie Ross Duncan, at Park Hill, Okla. Mr. Ross had been with his daughter, Jennie and her family, only a week before leaving here on Saturday. He passed away with a heart attack on the following Tuesday. Mr. Ross had just returned from a trip to Chattanooga, Tenn., where he had unveiled a stone in memory of his Grandfather, Cherokee Chief John Ross. Rossville, Georgia is literally right across street from Chattanooga. The Original name of Chattanooga was Ross' Landing named for the Chief's Father Daniel Ross who operated the first ferry crossing on the Tennessee River at the foot of Lookout Mountain. While in Tennessee, Mr. Ross also dedicated the opening of the Market Street Bridge crossing the Tennessee in Chattanooga. He was laid to rest in the Ross cemetery at Park Hill beside wife, who preceded him only a year and a half prior.
