She was born July 31, 1914, in Oneonta, the daughter of James H. and Lydia (Baker) White. She was married to Edwin T. Newell on June 17, 1939. He died Feb. 19, 1982.
In her younger days she was a resident of the Binghamton area and graduated from Binghamton High School, but most of her adult life was spent in Oneonta. Before her retirement in 1965 she was a salesperson at Montgomery Ward and Sears Roebuck catalogue stores in Oneonta, and was later a clerk at the Huntington Memorial Library, Oneonta. She was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church, Oneonta, and its Altar Guild, and a member of Martha Chapter 116, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was Chaplain for many years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donna Farr of Oneonta and Mrs. Sandra White of Lansing; one son, Bruce E. Newell of Oneonta, eight grandchildren, two great-grandsons and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, May 18, 1987, in St. James' Episcopal Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Richard H. Frye, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, after 10 a.m. Sunday until noon Monday.
