Statesboro - James Hardy Johnston, 73, of Statesboro died Monday evening in Bulloch Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Screven County but lived in Statesboro for the past seven years. He was a retired employee of the Tennessee Vallay Authority. He was a deacon at Temple Hill Baptist and was a Mason.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Agnes R. Johnston of Statesboro; one son, James H. Johnston Jr. of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Chance of Metter and Mrs. Delmer Hendrix of Statesboro; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Temple Hill Baptist Church, with burial in Eastside Cemetery. Smith-Tillman Mortuary of Statesboro is in charge.
