Duane Arthur Anderson, age 75 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife and children on Monday afternoon, March 14, 2011 at the Reflections Hospice Center in Northfield.
He was born the second of four children to Raymond and Eunice (Lundell) Anderson in Red Wing. He attended rural country school at District #42 and graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1953.
He married Nadine M. Gesme on September 10, 1955 at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. They began their married life in Duane's childhood home, and later moved into the District #42 schoolhouse, which both Duane and his father had attended. Duane used his exceptional carpentry skills to turn a one room schoolhouse into a home.
Duane was a carpenter by trade, retiring in 1988 after suffering a stroke. He remained a member of the Local Carpenter Union #1644 for 50 years. He was a lifelong member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church. Throughout his lifetime, he served on the Wastedo School board, two terms on the Cannon Falls School Board, the Spring Garden Church Council and cemetery board, and was an active member of the Izaak Walton League.
Duane was an avid plumb bob collector and Twins fan. He enjoyed being with family and friends. He loved a good joke, a good auction, and a Sunday drive. He loved his God, his family and his country, and was faithful to all three. We will miss him deeply.
Duane is survived by Nadine, his loving wife of 55½ years; three children, Denise Pietrzak (Stan) of Red Wing, Kathy Kuhn (Tim) of Northfield, and Calvin Anderson (Peggy) of Northfield; six grandchildren, Matthew Pietrzak, Christopher Kuhn (Ruthie), Angela Kuhn, Alex Kuhn, Daniel Anderson and Amanda Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Keisha and Logan Kuhn, and Giovanni Caldwell; three loving brothers, Darrell of Buffalo, Dean (Donna) of Cannon Falls and Donald (Dorothy) of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews and loving in-laws.
He was welcomed in to Heaven by his son, Brian; his parents, Raymond and Eunice; and sister-in-law, Karleen Anderson.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at church on Saturday from 1-2 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be his Godchildren, Tim Kurtz, Roger Gesme, Conrad and Bradley Anderson, Cheryl (Magnuson) Pischke, Brent Sjoquist, and Christa Anderson.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
