Ludena E. Brooks was carried by angels into the arms of Jesus on March 4, 2011.

Born March 14, 1924, in Monkstown, Texas, she married John Brooks in 1939. They had four children and made a living pulling cotton in Girard, Texas. In 1950, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, then to Burleson, Texas, in 1955.

In 2005, she entered Trinidad Inn where she spent the remainder of her life being cared for by loving hands.

Ludena (Mamaw) was regarded as the perfect mother and grandmother. A wonderful cook, she was famous for her chocolate meringue pies, cookies and especially her German chocolate cakes.

She was happily married to John for 42 years. He played the guitar and they sang in churches all these years. She played the harmonica and performed even after moving into the nursing home. She was a true friend to many and was still friends with folks she'd met over 50 years ago.

Luden comes from a great fun-loving family who loves to joke and laugh. There were 11 brothers and sisters to laugh with. God gave us this precious lady to guide us through life and we feel so blessed. We'll miss her sweet, dimpled smile and her wise ways.

She was preceded in death by her baby son Joe Bob, son Raymond and husband John.

She is survived by son Johnny (Janet) of Salem, Ore.; daughter Katy Doris (Don) Sparkman of Raton; along with six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

A private memorial service with immediate family members is scheduled at Bethesda Cemetery in Burleson, Texas.
