Born February 1, 1920 in Albany, Georgia, James Walter Dalzell, 91, passed away on March 12, 2011. After graduating Albany High School, he joined the Navy in 1937, serving his country for 30 years. He was a Prisoner-of-War during WWII, captured in 1942 and released in 1945. He was a member of the Lawtey Masonic Lodge and other Masonic organizations, American Ex-Prisoner of War, Military Officers Association of America and Orange Park United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary; four daughters, Kathy Wray, Sandy Fischer, Pat Bannister and Kim Dalzell; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. To his family and everyone who knew him, Jim was a man of courage and convictions who put his Lord Jesus and family first. He will be remembered for his polar bear swims, floating down the Ichetucknee River, a round of golf and his beautiful blue eyes. Graveside service will be held Thursday, March 17 at 10 AM in Holly Hill Memorial Park, 3601 Old Jennings Rd. Middleburg, FL. 32068, with full military honors. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 16, from 6 to 8 PM at Holly Hill Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at Orange Park United Methodist Church, Thursday at 2 PM.
