Alice was born on March 14, 1936 on the homestead outside of Harlowton, Montana. She was the daughter of Blufford and May Bly. She married Gordon E. Gavne on June 14, 1953 in Big Timber, Montana.
She was retired and residing in Weiser, Idaho. Throughout her stay in Livingston, she worked at Safeway's, Olson's Laundry, and Livingston Federal Credit Union. Upon her retirement she worked at the grade school in Big Timber.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Weiser Christian Church, a volunteer with the Friends of the Weiser Hospital, the Pioneer Elementary School and annual Weiser Fiddle Festival.
Alice was never one to sit around for long. She always had a project she was working on or a trip to look forward to. She loved music and played the piano and violin for entertainment. Her master work is behind a Bernia Sewing machine making countless costumes, quilts and clothing for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed life and never let much keep her down. She was an inspiration to those who knew her well. She was an incredible mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her five daughters: Kim Fink, Livingston, Montana; Val Asumendi, Homedale, Idaho; Gordy Ann Ricci, Livingston, Montana; Tess Funk, Wilsall, Montana; Noa Towner, Weiser, Idaho. She is also survived by three sisters, Trinka Bourne, Wisconsin, Jackie Bly, Sheridan, Wyoming and Krista Thorso, Kalispell, Montana; one brother, David Bly, Wheeler, Texas; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Gavne; daughter, Tammy May; grandson, Lige Funk; mother, May Moer; and father, Blufford Bly.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday August 29, 2007 at the Weiser Christian Church in Weiser, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Lowry Funeral Home in Big Timber, with interment at Mountainview Cemetery in Big Timber.
