Elizabeth Spurgeon Degn was the daughter of George J. Spurgeon and Margaret Hatton, who came to Washington Territory in 1852. Elizabeth was born at Fort Vancouver, WA in 1865 and married to Benjamin "Brock" Gwinn, with whom she had a son, Vernon in 1887 and daughter, Avice in 1889. She divorced Brock Gwinn and married Edward F. Radcliff and had a daughter, Josephine in 1893 and divorced Radcliff in 1902. Her final marriage was to Olaf S. Degn and they were married for over 40 years. Olaf adopted Elizabeth's daughter Josephine and they had a daughter Anna in 1903 and a then a son, Nelson in 1908. Sadly, both daughters died in separate tragedies in childhood. Although Elizabeth and Olaf lived and passed away in Olympia, they are both buried alongside their daughters Josephine and Anna in Walla Walla, WA. Elizabeth was a gifted Psychic who assisted the Walla Walla police department in solving difficult cases. In 1920, a time when most women are listed as homemakers, Elizabeth listed her occupation as a Divine Healer in the 1920 Federal Census.
