Raymond Mathew Cichy was born August 7, 1924 in Urbank, Minnesota. His parents were the late John and Amelia (Klimek) Cichy. When Raymond was four years old the Cichy family moved to New York Mills from Urbank. He attended Button School District #133. Raymond started well drilling with his father John at the age of 14. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. After returning from the service, Raymond returned to the family business of well drilling with his father and two brothers, Leo and Anton.

On October 20,1951 Raymond was united in marriage with Iris Kelm in New York Mills, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Then Raymond started a well
drilling partnership with his sons until the event of his death. Eric now works for his father, Eldon, so well drilling is in the 4th generation of the Cichy family. Ray continued well drilling even in his illness, working in the office up until these last three weeks. He was a longtime member of the Minnesota Water Well Association and a life member of the New York Mills VFW Post #3289.

Ray passed away on April 17, 1995 at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena at 70 years of age.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Regina Haagenstad and Marcella Rosenthal; and step-mother, Jennie Cichy.

Survivors include his wife, Iris; three sons: Eldon (Joann) Cichy, Ronald (Rosalie) Cichy and Steven (Gloria) Cichy, all of New York Mills; 4 grandchildren: Eric, Ryan, Stephanie and Michael; a sister, Agnes Paul of Perham; 3 brothers: Tony (Eleanor) Cichy of Dent, Max Cichy of Dent, and Leo Cichy of New York Mills; also many other relatives and a host of friends.
