Bertie A. E. Charlton, age 76, of Hastings died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, MN.
He was born September 6, 1934 in Kenyon to Bertie R. and Erma (Zabel) Charlton. Bertie served in the Army during the Korean War and married Eleanor Gergen on August 27, 1965 in Hastings. Prior to retirement, he had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years. Bertie enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycle, playing cards, camping, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family – especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife Eleanor; daughters Mary Alyce (Neal) Drake of Lakeville, Suzanne (Joel) Rubin of Flower Mound, TX and Linda (Kevin) Gosselin of Shady Shores, TX; eight grandchildren Catherine, Alex, Laura, Amanda, Paul, Daniel, Hannah, and Grace; sisters Norma (Kenneth) Helgeson of St. Paul and Velma (Leo) Erickson of Virginia, MN.
The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl will be held 11am Saturday, March 19, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings with visitation two hours prior to service at church. Interment, with military honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210 will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Trier. The pallbearers are Paul Overstreet, Daniel Overstreet, Alex Drake, Allan Kieffer, John Kieffer, and Reggie Licari.
