US Congressman. Representative to Pennsylvania’s 19th, 18th and 16th Congressional Districts, was born in Harrisburg, Pa on July 21, 1898. He was a grandson of John Christian Kunkel. He attended Harrisburg Academy, Phillips Academy and graduated from Yale University. He took his law degree from Harvard University. He was admitted to the bar in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. In 1938 he was elected to the Seventy sixth and the five succeeding Congresses. He was not a candidate for reelection in 1950 and failed in an attempt to secure the Republican nomination for the US Senate. Following a term as Dauphin County commissioner Kunkel won a special election to fill a vacancy in the Eighty seventh Congress and won reelection 2 times before deciding to leave Congress and resigning on December 30, 1966. He passed away in Harrisburg on July 27, 1970 a much beloved public figure.
