It is rather unusual for a lady whose age is reported ten years too young to desire a correction. If the shoe had been on the other foot, and the lady had been but half as old as in the present case, the census enumerator and the editor might have expected a lively time, and the earliest correction and the most humble apology might have been all too small to have healed the wound with a majority of ladies and gentlemen too. In this case, Mrs. Louisa Dixson's name appeared in the list of people in last week's GAZETTE as seventy-two, which lacked ten years of the right age, eighty-two, the fault of the GAZETTE, was not plain in the copy.

The Late Mrs. Dixson

Mrs. Henry Dixson, who died Oct. 17th, was born in Framingham, Mass., in December, 1798, making her nearly 93 years of age. She belonged to a large family, who nearly all reached the age of 90. Her early life was spent in the town where she was born, and she was reared with the strict ideas and thrifty ways common to New England people. In February, 1823, she was married to Henry Dixson, when they came to Western New York, and settled on the farm now owned by Norton Chamberlin. After a few years they bought the farm where she died, and lived there and in the same house for nearly sixty years. Though this house is one of the oldest ones in the town, a death had never taken place within its walls, till that of Mr. Dixson, which occurred thirteen years ago. He died at the age of 78. Five years later the mother of Mrs. Ezra Dixson also died there, at the age of 79, thus making three aged people who have been carried from its doors to their long home. Mrs. Dixson's life was one of remarkable tranquility and quiet happiness, which centered in her home life. Her old age was especially serene. Though so aged, she retained her faculties perfectly, with the exception of her eyesight, which began to fail about six years ago and to the last, it was a pleasure to meet and converse with her. She leaves but two children, Mrs. L. C. Kingsbury of Corning and E. R. Dixson, with whom she lived, besides two grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral took place from the house Tuesday, the 20th ult., though owing to the severe rain storm the burial did not take place till the following day.
