INSCRIPTIONS ON TOMBSTONES IN NEW HAVEN PRIOR TO 1800, p. 514
"John Dixwell, son of Edward & Mary (Hawkensworth) Dixwell, of Coton, Warwickshire, and later of Folkestone, in Kent, England: one of the Regicide Judges; settled here in 1665 under the name of James Davids; married Nov. 3, 1673, Joanna, widow of Benjamin Ling, who died soon; next married, Oct. 23, 1677, Bathsheba, daughter of Jeremiah How, born May 15, 1648, died at Middletown, Dec. 27, 1729.

Inscription on a stone at the rear of the Center Church:

DECEASED MARCH Ye
18th IN ye 82d YEAR OF
HIS AGE 1688/9

Near this stone stands a monument erected in 1849 to Dixwell's memory by his descendants with appropriate inscriptions."
